Settling

Cycling accidents can be difficult to resolve on your own. Insurance companies are often unreasonable when dealing with claims made by cyclists. They may try to minimize your injuries and low-ball their offer to settle. An experienced attorney not only knows what your claim is worth, they have years of experience in the complex negotiations required to get the maximum settlement. In the event that your claim must go to trial, a skilled lawyer will be adept at gathering the necessary documentation, lining up expert testimony and putting together a compelling case that will deliver the results you need.

Every case is unique and determining the value and likelihood of success of an individual case takes years of experience. Since our team offers free case consultations, the easiest way to find out the merit of your claim is to schedule a meeting with us. We want to hear what happened and find out all the pertinent details. Once we know the facts of the situation we will be able to help you determine your path to resolving your case.

In Washington, cyclists are a little of both. Bikes can act as pedestrians in certain situations such as when riding on the sidewalk. Seattle allows bicycles on sidewalks and expects riders to pay attention to their surroundings and keep their speed at a reasonable rate. Additionally, bikes must yield to pedestrians on foot when cycling on sidewalks. When traveling on the streets, bikes must follow the traffic safety rules that are also imposed on cars and motorcycles. Bikes are granted some privileges that other vehicles do not get such as riding in the Bus Only lane or passing through red lights in certain situations.

Bikes have the same rights and responsibilities as other vehicles when they are operated on a roadway. They must obey stoplights and stop signs and must signal when turning. Cyclists must yield to pedestrians when riding on sidewalks. Additionally, bikes must give an audible signal when passing pedestrians on sidewalks.

Washington’s new Safety Stop law allows cyclists to treat most stop signs as yield signs instead of coming to a complete stop. Bikes must still come to a complete stop at stoplights, stop signs on school buses, and stop signs at railroad crossings.

Washington State generally has a Statute of Limitations of 3 years in personal injury cases. This three year period is measured from the date the accident occurred. It is advisable to consult with an attorney about how and when to file a claim after you have been involved in an accident.

We look forward to meeting you and to discussing your case. We take this opportunity to introduce ourselves and get to know you in a friendly, no-pressure setting. We will also want to learn about your accident and any related injuries. It is often helpful for you to bring any documentation you currently have so we can gain a more thorough understanding of the situation.

“A law firm where integrity matters is difficult to find. Complete and open honesty in a caring environment requires an entirely different level of integrity. Knowledgeable and effective representation in both criminal and family law are just the basic standard here. I highly recommend them to handle any legal issue.”
