Criminal charges result from an act (or omission) that violates a federal, state or local law. The charges range in severity from misdemeanors to felonies with varying classifications that control the maximum length of confinement and fines that may be levied against the convicted person.

A misdemeanor conviction can carry a fine of up to $1000 and jail time of up to 90 days. A Gross Misdemeanor is more serious and can have financial penalties of up to $5000 and up to 364 days of jail time.

A felony is a serious crime that can be punishable by more than a year in a state or federal prison. Washington law establishes three classes of felonies: A, B, and C. These classifications are important when it comes to determining the potential sentence. Class A Felonies can impose fines of up to $50,000 and sentences as severe as Life in Prison. State felony offenses can also be divided into other general categories such as seriously violent, violent, violent-sex, non-violent, non-violent sex, and non-violent-traffic. If you are convicted of a felony crime in Washington you will lose your right to hold public office and your right to purchase, possess, or use any firearm or items which are legally classified as dangerous weapons. You will also lose your right to vote while you are incarcerated for a felony and while you are on parole.

Drug and alcohol related crimes in Washington have additional penalties based on a complex matrix of factors. In addition to fines and incarceration, one can lose their license to drive, be court ordered to attend Treatment and/or be ordered to install an Ignition Interlock device on their vehicle. Drug convictions in Washington can also lead to a loss of Federal funding including the loss of school financial aid and loan eligibility.

“Great and awesome Law Firm the office lady Sabrina is very nice and you know we all have our bad days but she seems to never have one, Josh is very knowledgeable and doesn't suck up to the prosecution and most importantly believes his clients and listen to his clients I would recommend them to anyone for any case.”
