Kent YMCA Hosts Community Back-to-School fair with Sports, Music, and Celebrity Guests

Kent, WA – August 17, 2025 — The Kent YMCA was buzzing with energy this past weekend as families from across the region came together for the annual Community Back-to-School Fair, a free event for kids 18 and under designed to help students gear up for the school year.

With tons of sponsors such as Brumley Law Firm, X Stadium, and Beastmode, the fair offered something for everyone: a 3-on-3 basketball tournament, a spirited flag football competition, lively carnival games, and colorful bouncy houses that kept younger kids entertained throughout the day. Families also enjoyed free food and drinks, along with fresh haircuts for students, helping children head back to school confident and prepared.

One of the biggest highlights was the backpack giveaway, where hundreds of students received brand-new school supplies at no cost. Volunteers worked tirelessly to ensure every child left with what they needed to start the year strong.

Adding to the excitement, the event featured live performances from three local favorites — DJ Yohiness, DJ Charma, and DJ Kutt — who kept the crowd moving with upbeat mixes that gave the fair a block-party feel.

The star power didn’t stop with the music. Kids and parents alike were thrilled to see appearances from Seattle sports legends: Marshawn Lynch, Richard Sherman, and Shawn Kemp. The celebrity guests took time to interact with families, sign autographs, and share encouraging words with the young athletes.

Adding to the fun, Brumley Law Firm hosted a booth where kids enjoyed face painting and balloon art while parents picked up free Brumley Law Firm t-shirts. The booth quickly became one of the most popular spots of the day, underscoring the firm’s commitment to giving back and building stronger community ties.

With smiles on every face and a packed day of fun, the Kent YMCA Back-to-School Fair was more than just an event, it was a celebration of community, resilience, and opportunity. As families left with backpacks in hand and memories to last a lifetime, the message was clear: in Kent, when kids succeed, the whole community wins.
